Fire Cider Oxymel
Fire cider is a favorite recipe among herbalists. Made popular by herbalist Rosemary Gladstar, it uses a combination of spicy and pungent herbs, fruits, and chilli peppers. An immune system ally known for helping to fight off cold-weather illnesses.
Oxymels are a traditional form of medicine that date back to ancient times, where we can find references to their use made by both the Romans and the Greeks. In fact, in 400 B.C.E. Greek physician Hippocrates wrote about their power in his famous On Regimen in Acute Diseases.
The word itself means « acid and honey. » Put simply, an herbal elixir extracted in vinegar and honey. They can be sipped in small amounts daily as an immune tonic, taken liberally when sick, or even used topically to treat wounds or infections.
Recent studies published in the Scientific American have found that they are affective on strains of antibiotic resistant bacteria, and that the already powerful components of apple cider vinegar and raw honey become exponentially more powerful when coupled together, without mentioning the healing potential of added herbs!
All of my oxymels are made with raw local honey and unfiltered organic apple cider vinegar. Because unfiltered vinegar contains the "mother" strands of proteins, enzymes, and helpful bacteria, it provides a wide spectrum of support for the digestive and immune systems. Honey is soothing and sweet and contains its own antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties.
Packaged in a 250 ml glass bottle with cork.
